Doja Cat recently canceled summer tour dates to recover from throat surgery. Doja Cat, who was set to perform at Lollapalooza and other summer festivals shared on Twitter that she needed to have emergency surgery due to her infected tonsils.

She mentioned that she had been having issues with her tonsils since before the 2022 Billboard Music Award ceremony. On May 19th she tweeted on social media, “Nah so my tonsils got infected before bbmas and i was taking f***** antibiotics but forgot that i was taking them and then i drank wine and was vaping all day long and then i started getting a nasty a** growth on my tonsil so they had to do surgery on it today.” She explained that during the emergency surgery they rid her left tonsil of the abscess, “i cried and it hurt a lot but im ok,” she stated in a tweet.

The next day she announced that she would be having another surgery to fix her tonsils, however the recovery process would majorly affect her ability to perform, therefore she would need to cancel her tour dates to heal properly. She was scheduled to perform at the Hangout Festival in Alabama on May 21st, however, the day before this performance, she went to the hospital to get the emergency surgery. Doja Cat was also scheduled to headline at the famous Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago from July 28th to July 31st. Due to the swelling from recovery, she will no longer be attending the festival. The official festival account tweeted, “We are saddened by the cancellation of @DojaCat‘s summer tour, including her headlining set at #Lolla. We wish her a speedy recovery. A replacement will be announced soon.”

During the Billboard Music Awards, where she won Top R&B artist, she was drinking and vaping, which worsened the condition of her tonsils. She explained that if she continued vaping, the toxins in vapes could seep into the wound in her throat. She claims it caused the growth in her tonsil and wanted to quit entirely but is worried about her dependency on it. Although she admits she has a problem with her addiction, she said the thought of quitting instills panic in her because she feels she needs to vape. In her current condition, she is only allowed to eat soups and is in pain because of her throat. She plans to remove her tonsils entirely. 

Despite all of this, Doja Cat reassures her fans that everything will be okay in a tweet, “I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music for y’all…thanks for being supportive. i love you.”
