After making shady remarks about Will Smith assaulting Chris Rock at the Oscars, fans hold Zoë Kravitz face to face with her past. Inappropriate comments Kravitz made about 14-year-old Jaden Smith in a 2013 interview with V Magazine are now resurfacing on the internet. 

Kravitz was invited to the Oscars after her outstanding performance as Catwoman in The Batman. During the award show, Rock made a nasty comment on Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia which then prompted Will Smith to walk on stage and hit him. Viewers were left shocked and Kravitz quickly took to Instagram to comment on it. She captioned a picture of her dress for the award show with, “here’s a picture of my dress at the award show where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now.” Later, she made another post of her after-party dress and captioned it, “and here is a picture of my dress at the party after the award show -where we are apparently screaming profanities and assaulting people on stage now.”

It didn’t take long for people to dig up some dirt from the past, specifically, the 2013 V Magazine interview, where Kravitz inappropriately talked about Jaden Smith. “There were moments that I was hanging out with Jaden and thinking I can’t believe you’re 14, I have to check myself, like what I say to you….He has so much personality, so much swag. He is way cooler than I am. And he’s so handsome. I was always like, when you’re older, you know, we’ll hang out…Nope, that’s inappropriate, you’re 14,” she said. 

Another interview with Extra TV revealed Kravitz referring to Jaden Smith as her “date” and the “love of her life” even going as far as to claim she was in “love” with him. With Jaden Smith only being a minor at the time, people did not hesitate to express their disgust on Twitter, claiming she was a pedophile and a hypocrite for judging Will Smith’s flaws. 

To add to the fire, others brought up her close relationship with designer Alexander Wang, who was accused of sexual harassment by multiple people. Wang denied the allegations and claimed they were “false” and “fabricated.” However, he later issued an apology where he took responsibility for some behavior and claimed to respect the victims’ bravery. 

Many condemned Kravitz for proudly parading her friendship with Wang. One user commented, “how did nobody bat an eye when zoe kravitz (26) called jaden smith (16) the love of her life / her date ? nobody commented further on it ? the reporter GIGGLED ? what is with the normalization of predatory behaviour in hollywood LIKE ? NO ONE THOUGHT THAT WAS WEIRD ?” 

On the other hand, many considered this to be an odd time to hold her accountable, raising the fact that others knew about her problematic comments but chose to ignore them. Before this, Kravitz has always been a famous and well-respected actress, not taking much for fans to simply turn a blind eye. Amid the callout, she has yet to come forward and speak on the topic.
